Brewce Martin in Critical Condition

Update #3 Tuesday, June 23th, 2009

Brewce has been moved out of the Intensive Care Unit at Cabell-Huntington Hospital. He is now able to eat, communicate, and is on the long road to recovery. He is unable to attend Bowl Bash XIV which starts Thursday.

We ask you keep up the positive energy and keep him and the the safety of all those traveling to Bowl Bash in your prayers.

Update #2 Saturday, June 20th, 2009

We’re all exhausted.

Amber has barely left Brewce’s side since the accident. Brandon has been going back and forth from working at Skatopia to visiting his father at the Hospital. And I, Foo, have been on the phone and myspace all day speaking to bands and Brewce’s well wishers.

We’re very grateful for having friends and family such as you. The positive outpour of energy is exactly what Brewce needs. Keep it up. He is doing better, but he isn’t out of the woods yet. Due to the type of injury, doctors have advised against visitors. What Brewce needs now is a quiet recovery. We ask instead you help out at Skatopia instead of coming to the hospital.

Bowl Bash XIV is still on.
This year’s Bowl Bash is a very special one. I chose the theme of Aspiration. Skatopia is Brewce’s Aspiration since his first mini-ramps out of doors in his bedroom. This Bowl Bash, musically and event wise, was one of mine. Over 100 bands are preforming: Folk, Punk, Bluegrass, and Metal. Green Jelly will be recording a live CD Friday and Saturday night. All the bands are playing for free making the entry free.

If you cannot make it out to Skatopia or Bowl Bash to help or attend, we are asking you donate money for concrete. When Brewce recovers we want to show him Skatopia met his aspirations and poured more concrete.

Brewce Martin in 1998

Last night I was informed, that Brewce Martin was injured and transported to a regional hospital.

Brewce had received major head trauma when a tire exploded in a tire shop near Skatopia. Surgery was preformed to relieve pressure around his brain caused by swelling. I have just gotten off the phone with the Cabell-Huntington Hospital where he is still in the ICU and listed under Critical condition as of June 18th, 2009 7:47PM.

Bowl Bash XIV 2009 will still be going on. We ask all bands, skaters, and patrons to attend to show love and support for Brewce Martin and his skateboarding legacy. You may find the band list at: http://skatopia.us/events/bowl-bash/bowl-bash-xiv/

Skatopia: 88 Acres of Anarchy the documentary about Brewce Martin, Skatopia, and his vision will have a sneak peak on Saturday June 27th at the Bowl Bash. From there, it will Premiere at the Acefest in New York. Further information the Premeire can be found at: http://acefest.bside.com/2009/films/skatopia88acresofanarchy_acefest2009

While Brewce and the Skatopia family appreciates your show of support, please avoid calling if at all possible, to keep the lines free for hospital related calls. Brandon would appreciated a well needed break.

Brandon, You probably don’t remember me but I was a friend of your Dad’s back in the 80′s in Wilmington, NC. I babysat you back then a couple of times.
